Our Purpose: We Believe Something Bigger Than Ourselves

Kids that stutter live in fear of a world that doesn’t see, hear or understand them. They face levels of cruelty, teasing, and bullying that create anxiety which causes them to silence and hide. These kids become so embarrassed that they isolate themselves and feel alone.
Representation is everything. It’s important for these kids to be able to see and hear themselves in and on the same platforms as everyone else. You shouldn’t have to hide or be ashamed of who you are. Your stutter is not your weakness, it’s your superpower.
I know what it’s like to live in that world of silence and fear. I had to go through that journey and now I see the importance of telling my story so other kids that stutter won’t have to go through what I went through. When I was a kid, I thought I was the only black girl in the world that stuttered. I always wanted to know, “why me?” I felt like something was wrong with me and felt alone. Once I spoke my truth, I felt like the burden was lifted. This book is about me speaking my truth, so other people who stutter can feel empowered to speak theirs.
